Mexico City, October 23, 2019.- With the purpose of providing greater possibilities to access air transport, Viva Aerobus, Mexico´s ultra-low-cost-carrier, launched a new modality to buy flight tickets through online auctions, becoming the first airline to implement this sales scheme in the country.
This dynamic is designed to improve customers’ travel experience, who, in addition to fly in the youngest fleet in Mexico, may get discounts up to 60%. This proposal seeks to make Viva's offer fit the real budget and needs of each passenger.
“This innovation confirms our mission to make flying a truly available transport option for everyone. We will have an average of 15 auctions per day and all our 118 routes, both domestic and international, will eventually participate in this scheme,” explained Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus.
Some of the first auctions carried out by the airline, corresponded to the routes Mexico - Las Vegas, Mexico - Los Cabos, Mexico - Mazatlan and Mexico - Puerto Escondido, among others.
Participation mechanics consist of a simple registration on the website (name, date of birth, contact details and bank data) in order to access the options of routes at auction (round flights). There, a flat price is indicated from which the bid begins. Users indicate the amount they are willing to pay, and they are notified, via email, if an offer greater than their own is made, so that they have more opportunities to acquire the flight. There will be five winners, that is, the 5 best offers get the flight at the offered price and they can get up to 5 round tickets at that rate.
Depending on the date of departure and the nature of the route, the auctions will last between one and seven hours.
According to Juan Carlos Zuazua, “this modality is part of the triad of initiatives that Viva has developed this year to improve the flight experience, which starts from the purchase of tickets, thus meeting the needs of all types of travelers. The idea is that Viva becomes everyone's boarding pass.”
In this sense, Viva Aerobus recently allied with Kueski Pay to offer a payment alternative that opens the doors of credit to all those who do not have a card of this nature. Directly from Viva´s website, when choosing Kueski Pay as payment method, passengers can purchase their tickets and pay up to 90 days later.
Also, the airline launched, this year, the Viva Fan membership, a program that for $550 pesos per year provides preferential prices on every flight and exclusive promotions.
These facilities, coupled with the constant expansion of Viva Aerobus, which so far this year has resulted in 23 more routes in its portfolio, boost the loyalty and growing preference of travelers towards the airline's proposal. In this regard, in the period January – September, Viva increased its number of passengers by 20% compared to 2018; with a total above 8.7 million customers.
