Viva Aerobus registered more than 650 thousand passengers in August 2020, an increase of 39% compared to July 2020

Mexico City, September 8, 2020. - Viva Aerobus, Mexico´s ultra-low-cost carrier, reports that in August 2020 it registered more than 650 thou-sand passengers, an increase of 39% compared to July 2020. This is a result of its gradual routes resumption serving Mexico´s connectivity needs and under the strict prevention and hygiene protocols issued by the com-petent authorities.

In August 2020, 84 routes were operated and Viva's capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASKs), was 67% compared to the same month of the previous year. Additionally, Viva Aerobus announced that during September it operates 95 routes, which represents more than 80% of its capacity measured in ASKs and com-pared to September 2019. This reactivation includes the new routes from Mexico City to Veracruz, La Paz and San Antonio, as well as new non-stop flights from Monterrey to Dallas.

Compared to August 2019, the number of passengers implied a decrease of 44.3%, as a result of the effects of the current pandemic on the flights demand. Consequently, the load factor in this month was 77.1%, 11.2 percentage points less than in the same month last year.

Regarding the accumulated total for the year (January-August 2020), Viva Aerobus reported more than 4.4 million passengers and an average load factor of 81.5%. These results, compared to the same period 2019, implied a decrease of 42.7% in terms of passengers and a decrease of 8.2 percentage points in the load factor.

  • Passengers: People who purchased their plane ticket to fly during the month referred in the report, regardless whether or not if they flew.
  • ASK (Available Seat Kilometers): Seat available for sale that flies 1 kilometer (regardless of whether it is occupied or not).
  • RPK (Revenue Passenger Kilometers): Indicates the total distance flown by passengers who paid for their transport in kilometers. It is the measure of the total traffic of passengers who paid for flying (excludes courtesies, employees, etc.).
  • Load Factor: Represents the percentage of reserved seats in an aircraft or fleet in a certain period.
